State Pageant Rules
Interview
Interviews will be conducted on Friday evening for Contestants aged 5 and up. Your Interview score will be one third of your total Beauty score. Contestants will be asked a series of questions from our panel of judges. The questions will be appropriate for each age group. Parents will not have viewing access during this event. A CSoNE staff member will escort each contestant individually into the designated area where the interviews will be conducted. Interview scores will be based upon Overall Impression, Communication Skills, and Appearance. Contestants are required to wear a casual pant/skirt suit, or for younger Contestants, a casual sun dress or dress pants and dress shirt.
Pajama Wear
For this category, Contestants could get up in the morning and be all ready for their first event it's Pajama Wear. You may wear anything to do with Pajamas! Jammies, robes, slippers, even curlers in their hair! Please keep them age appropriate. Props are allowed. You may do a simple routine on stage that is not to exceed longer than one minute. No pro am routines please. You may bring your own music, but it must be on a CD and cued to start immediately. Your name, age division and Pageant category must be clearly marked on the CD and the case.
Idol Wear
Have fun with this category. The possibilities are endless. Dress up like your idol! From Tinkerbell, to Spiderman, Madonna to President Bush, anything goes! Props are allowed.We ask that on your registration form beside the lined marked for idolwear that you make an indication as to whom you have selected and why. This will be read while you are sporting your attire during the idolwear competition. You may do a simple routine on stage that is not to exceed longer than one minute. No pro am routines please. Music must be on a CD and cued to start immediately. Your name, age division and Pageant category must be clearly marked on the CD and the case.
Patriotic Wear
What better way to show off our great country's colors than with this event. For this category, Contestants may wear any type of outfit, as long as it has the colors red, white and blue in it! You may do a simple routine on stage that is not to exceed longer than one minute. No pro am routines please. Music must be on a CD and cued to start immediately. Your name, age division and Pageant category must be clearly marked on the CD and the case.
Talent
Show us your talent! Wether it's dancing, singing, karate, gymnastics, a monologue, or something else, we want to see what you are the best at! The age divisions for Talent are:
4-5, 6-8, 9-11, 12-14, 15-18 & 19 & Up. We will be awarding winners in each age group as well as two overall titles for the talent competition. Girls and boys will be combined. Music must be on a CD and cued to start immediately. Your name, age division and Pageant category must be clearly marked on the CD and the case. Time limit for all Talent entries is 2 Minutes!
Opening Number
All Contestants will be taught a simple routine to be performed Saturday evening before Beauty from our choreographer. During the rehearsal on Saturday afternoon, you may wear comfortable, casual clothing that is easy to move around in. For the performance you will need to wear your pageant T-Shirt that you received during registration, and either jean shorts, or a jean skort. The baby and tiny divisions will only have to stay for brief instructions lasting approximately 15-20 minutes, then will be dismissed for the afternoon.
Essay
The topic of the essay is: Who your favorite American is and why.
The Essay optional is FREE and open to Contestants ages 6 & up. We ask that you allow your contestant to write their own essay with minimal adult assistance (We want this to be fair to all contestants entering this optional). The essays should not exceed 200 words, and should be submitted on or before the registration deadline. PLEASE NOTE: You do NOT need to enter this category to compete for an Overall title!! It is completely optional.
Beauty Information
All girl/women contestants are required to wear a dress for the beauty portion of the pageant. The type of dress is up to the individual. It can be long or short, Sunday best,or flower girl type dresses for the younger girls, and prom gowns or cocktail dresses for the older girls and women. Please, no glitz dresses. They MUST be off-the-rack. (Exception: Dress can be custom-made, but most NOT be a glitz dress.) The dress itself will NOT be judged, but the overall appearance of the contestant WILL be.
Boys are required to wear suits or 'Sunday Best' attire.
Again, We must stress that this is a NATURAL PAGEANT.
NO Fake hair, teeth, tans (Natural ones are fine), etc.
No props are allowed during beauty. This includes hats, gloves, parasols, etc.
Each contestant will have 1 minute ONLY to do their routine. The routine will consist of a simple runway walk with turns if you wish, but No spins, and no pro-am routines.
Remember each contestant must have an escort during the beauty portion of the pageant. Before we begin the beauty completition we will give a visual example as to what the role of the escort plays.
EXCEPTION: A parent/guardian will bring the child on stage for the girls Baby Miss & Mister (0-23 Months) divisions. Babies are not required to do any runway/modeling routine. We just ask that for the Baby division, parents hold their child in front of them, facing the judges, or, the parent is to stand behind their child, or kneeling to the side of the child, out of the judges view. If needed, a parent may go on stage with their child if they are in the Tiny Miss & Mister (3-5) divisions, but the parent MUST stay behind their child, out of the judges view.

Makeup/Hair
We do NOT allow full makeup on any contestant under the age of 15. Light blush and lip gloss is allowed on children between the ages of 6 and 14, and for contestants aged 15 and up they should wear makeup light, like they are going to school or work. Children younger than 6 should not have anything on their faces. Nail polish is allowed, but please keep it a light color. We want to see the faces of your wonderful children, so let that beautiful, natural glow show! :-)
Hair may be done like you are going to a wedding or other special event, but NO Pageant Hair! Think NATURAL!
Age Divisions
Contestants will be split up into these age categories:
0-23 Months Baby Miss Crowned Star of New England
0-23 Months Baby Mister Crowned Star of New England
2-3 Tiny Miss Crowned Star of New England
2-3 Tiny Mister Crowned Star of New England
4-5 Wee Miss Crowned Star of New England
4-5 Wee Mister Crowned Star of New England
6-8 Little Miss Crowned Star of New England
6-7 Little Mister Crowned Star of New England
9-11 Petite Miss Crowned Star of New England
8-10 Mister Crowned Star of New England
12-14 Junior Miss Crowned Star of New England
15-18 Teen Miss Crowned Star of New England
19-25 Miss Crowned Star of New England
If there is only one contestant in an age division, that contestant will be put in the next lower or higher division depending on age (Ex: If there is only 1 four year old entered into the Wee Miss Division, then she will be bumped into the Tiny Miss (2-3) Division. If there are more than 10 contestants in an age division we may split the division by age, so more prizes can be awarded.
Overall King & Queens
(You must enter ALL categories to be eligible for Overall King and Queen)
If there are 10 or more Overall participants in a pageant, an Overall Queen will be crowned. This will be the girl / woman with the highest scores in Beauty, and all optional categories combined in the 6-25 age divisions. If 15 or more Overall participants are present, an Overall Queen will also be crowned for girls between the ages of 0-5. If there are 10 or more boys entered in Overall, we will crown an Overall King.
Optional Categories
The optional categories are as follows:
Photogenic, Best Eyes, Best Smile, Best Personality and Best Fashion
Each contestant that was entered into an optional category will go onto the stage to be judged for that optional in his/her age category (Age divisions for all optionals are the same as beauty). If there are more than 10 participating contestants in an optional category per age group, we may split the group enabling us to award more prizes. All contestants will be judged on all optionals (except Photogenic) during their beauty lineup.
The Photogenic category will be judged on facial beauty and quality of photo. Judging for the Photogenic category will take place before the start of the pageant. If you wish to enter this category, you must hand in your photo at pageant registration. You may enter more than one photo if you wish at $5 for each additional photo submitted after the first one. Please attach an address label with, or write with pencil, your child's name, age, address and phone number on the back of the photo. We recommend 8x10's, but 5x7's will be accepted. Please, no photo larger than 8x10. It can be in color, or black and white. Photos must be current (Taken within 6 months of the pageant), and the contestant must not be wearing heavy makeup. Please see the 'makeup/hair' rules to determine how much makeup should be appropriate for the headshot. The same rules apply.
The photo can be taken by a professional, department store, or can even be taken by Mom or Dad as long as the 8x10 is a headshot, and the photo is of good quality. Please do not submit overly enhanced photos (changed background, perfected hairdo, flawless complexion, etc.) However, SLIGHT enhancements will be allowed to cover a blemish, birthmark, etc. If the judges can tell that it has been overly enhanced, point's may be deducted.
Photo Collage category will be judged on presentation and overall appearance. It should be on paper size no larger than a 9 x 12. You may choose to use a variety of photos, ranging from a wallet size to an 8 x 10. The maximum photos allowed to be used are 12, with the minimum of six. You may use black and white, sepia or color. Be creative. This category is similar to a scrap book page. You can arrange your photos in which ever way you creatively desire. Accessories such as glitter, stickers, gems, and any other craft supplies are allowed to be used on your collage,,
For Best Personality, Contestants aged 3-4 will state their name and age. Contestants 5-6 years will state their name, age and where they are from. Contestants aged 7-11 will be required to say their name, age, where they are from, and a little about themselves (Examples: hobbies, interests, favorite school subject, etc.). Contestants 12-18 will be required to say their name, age, where they are from, and what their future goals are (Examples: Education, Career, etc.). Contestants 19-25 will be required to say their name, age and where they are from. They will then be asked an interview-type question.
For the Fashion category, the contestant will be judged during Beauty in their attire. They will be judged on the actual dress /suit, and how it looks on the contestant (Example: It fits right, is age appropriate, etc.)
Cameras and Video will be allowed but please do not walk around in the front of the stage/judging area obstructing the views of those seated in the front rows. If you would like to take pictures and/or video, please stand on right side of the seating area.
Un-sportsmanship-like behavior will NOT be tolerated! If we witness a contestant or a contestant's family member being anything but supportive and positive of ALL contestants and their families, you may be disqualified with NO REFUND! We strive to be the best pageant system in New England, and we set our expectations high for our Staff AND our contestants and their families. CSoNE is a family-run pageant that strives to make everyone feel special. We are teaching our own daughters morals and positive self esteem. We hope you share our same beliefs.
Contestants will compete in the age division for what age they are the day of the pageant.
There will be NO REFUNDS unless the pageant is canceled. In that case, all fees paid will be returned to you promptly.
All of the judges decisions are FINAL. Staff and Directors have absolutely NO influence over any of the judges decisions. Scores may be requested after the pageant (by phone or email only), and will be sent to you by mail.
Title Holders will be notified throughout the year of volunteer work, charity fundraiser's, and special outings and appearances that may take place. It is not required to attend any or all, but we strongly suggest the title holder try to make it to a few events. We are a different pageant system that wants to promote volunteering, and charity work in all of our communities, and NOT just empty titles to do nothing with the rest of the year.
All contestants will receive a detailed schedule of the pageant a few weeks before the pageant date, along with directions to the host hotel and any other pertinent information. PLEASE make sure you are punctual to all of your events, so that the pageant can run smoothly.
